Did you ever get more information about this from SMART directly or anyone else?

Change funding from PhD to MS

by TemperateLlama » Sun May 23, 2021 7:05 pm

Hey SMART friends,

I'm currently funded for four years in a PhD program. My research progress has been extremely slow, which as you guys know is the more important part of a PhD. Its a mixture of not having much structure or support in the grad lab I'm a part of, and with my own troubles to get work done during quarantine while finishing classes. I love my coursework (and my research topic), but I no longer feel like a PhD is the right program for me. I would like to complete a masters instead, and request to change my degree and funding down to 2 years, graduating with MS in spring 2022. Im excited to work for my sponsoring facility and want to maintain my status with smart, but I'm nervous that they won't like me downgrading my degree. Has anyone had experience with changing degrees?
