Should we anticipate if we are selected to have internships this coming summer? Considering how long a background check takes, is that feasible?

No. I think it's always the summer after the first year of school they pay for.

Dilly is correct, but should you be selected you would have to do a visit there this summer, probably 1-2 days long.
