I just want to post a reminder for noobs- in past years, the notification emails have rolled out starting around 9am Eastern, and they seem to do it in batches, alphabetically. So if your last name starts with a W and you haven't seen anything by 11am, don't freak out.

Now to just make it through the weekend without going (more) insane...

Kind of?

If you didn't make it as a semifinalist you'll receive an email saying so but it won't specifically say if you were rejected by an SF or not. Does that make sense?

I'm gutted. I had an interview, she expressly said she'd be asking for me, I'm at a cheap school with only one year left...why on earth would they not pick me?!

If she said she recommended you then it was likely factors you could not control. Maybe they didn’t have the budget for you after you graduated. Just be proud that you’re just as qualified as those who were awarded.

I was awarded! Applied physics PhD 3.92 GPA for reference. Congrats everyone! I would just like to say to those that didn’t get it, it’s okay things like this are competitive and I was denied this exact scholarship as an undergrad.

I get there are factors outside the SF control, but all I can think of is expense, really. That's why I'm so mystified. I'm at a state school with only a year left. If someone wants me as an employee, why on earth wouldn't they want to spend the $10-15k? I mean, that's nothing compared to what they spend at private schools.
All I can think is if maybe my one year commitment is working against me? Maybe they want longer contracts.
