Yearly Stipend/ Internship
Yearly Stipend/ Internship
Since they are giving a yearly stipend for the completion of school is the internship over the summer also paid? and the job once we graduate is then changed to a salary pay??
Re: Yearly Stipend/ Internship
You're only paid for the internship if you live more than 50 miles from the site during the school year. They're monthly support payments. If you're not then you just get the standard monthly pay. Once you graduate you get one last support payment, then once you're hired full time you'll be paid through the sponsoring facility not SMART and that'll be your GS7,9 or 11 and locality increase.

so the internship doesnt pay hourly??kbl2017 wrote:You're only paid for the internship if you live more than 50 miles from the site during the school year. They're monthly support payments. Re: Yearly Stipend/ Internship
im confused.. do both smart and the sponsoring facility pay you for the internship? yes im more than 50 miles away
Re: Yearly Stipend/ Internship
No - you're already making 15-20 an hour to do nothing during the school year so I guess they figure it's enough. Normal internships for an undergrad pay about $15 an hour if you get them and are not part of SMART. The orientation says "internship support payments are not in exchange for work done"guest_ne wrote:so the internship doesnt pay hourly??kbl2017 wrote:You're only paid for the internship if you live more than 50 miles from the site during the school year. Only SMART pays you, just like for the travel stipend they'll approve you before summer starts for the extra $1000 a week. That way you can rent somewhere to live and a car etc while interning.

Extra $1000/week?! Does anyone know if that's the same for everyone who lives far enough away? That's not too bad on top of the stipend.kbl2017 wrote:No - you're already making 15-20 an hour to do nothing during the school year so I guess they figure it's enough. Yup, it's the same no matter what. Like the travel stipends as long as you are far enough away.Guest123 wrote:
