1) Have completed repayment of their debt owed to SMART
2) Have moved since repayment completed, such that DFAS would not have their current address on file and receive any new notices.
ANY OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES can/should be able to safely ignore this message (you’d get anything new in the mail).

Summary: I was recently REBILLED for my prior SMART debt that I paid off in April 2024 to the same account I repaid the original debt with, identical down to the cent in amount and for the same purpose. The first DFAS rep I spoke to unarchived my account history and practically admitted at first glance that this was a duplicate debt. I'm in process of disputing and escalating but...
I’m posting this notice because I have no way of knowing if this is a one-off fuckup with me, or a possible issue of SMART rebilling more formerly paid off participants, and if any of you have happened to move since repaying you would likely never see another DFAS letter before your false debt winds up in collections and way harder to unfuck.
I am therefore advising ANYONE who has repaid their debt and relocated to call the DFAS service number (1-866-912-6488) and check to see if they have been rebilled for SMART. They should be able to look you up by SSN in case it was assigned to a different account #.
I’d appreciate anyone who does call post a reply indicating whether or not you’ve been rebilled (hopefully not) and how long it has been since you paid off your debt. I’m wanting to determine if this is a wider issue with SMART or a (possibly retaliatory for the DoD IG audit) one-off against me.
If it is just SMART screwing me one more time, I apologize for any panic caused but an ounce of prevention (or 20 minute phone call) is worth avoiding months to years of legal and financial fuckery.
