Pass/Fail grades during study abroad

According to the handbook: "While some universities offer flexible course grading systems, including pass/fail credit, SMART policy stipulates that all course work offered for a grade must be taken for a grade."
I'll be studying abroad in the Spring. Study abroad grades transfer back to my home school as pass/fail and that's how they'll appear on my transcript, and they don't count towards my GPA. There is no way to get around this. Is this fine? I want to assume it is since "all course work offered for a grade must be taken for a grade" but this course work is technically NOT offered for a grade, only for pass/fail.
